What a private hospital room costs per night in Korea

Room upgrades are billed nightly and are one of the largest avoidable costs of an inpatient stay. Real per-night prices, and when the upgrade is not optional.

If you are admitted overnight in Korea, the room is a separate line on the bill, charged per night, and it is one of the few costs of an inpatient stay you have any say over. It is also one of the widest-disclosed items in the entire dataset, which makes it easy to check.

Korean hospitals default to multi-bed shared wards. A room with fewer beds is an upgrade, and the upgrade is what gets billed. The gap between a single and a double is substantial and compounds every night — on a week-long stay the difference is a meaningful fraction of the total.

Why the range is so wide

The spread on single rooms is one of the largest on this site. A tertiary hospital in central Seoul and a smaller hospital in a provincial city are pricing genuinely different products, and unlike most medical line items, hotel-like factors — space, view, ensuite facilities — legitimately drive the number.

This is one of the few places where treating the price as a consumer decision is entirely reasonable. You are, in part, buying accommodation.

What a room charge covers

The bed and the accommodation. Not nursing care, not medication, not procedures, not meals in every case. It is genuinely a room rate, sitting on top of the clinical bill rather than containing any of it.

For a self-paying foreign patient this matters because it is one of the few costs you can estimate accurately in advance: nights multiplied by the disclosed rate, before you know anything about your treatment.

Budgeting a stay

For a planned procedure, ask the hospital for the expected number of nights and multiply by the disclosed room rate for the tier you will be in. Then add the treatment itself, which is where the procedure pages come in.

Two documentation items are worth adding to the same budget:

Request them at discharge rather than after — the certificate guide explains why that timing matters for an insurance claim.

Check the hospital you are going to

The single room page lists every hospital that discloses a nightly rate, by region, each compared against its own local median. If a hospital has quoted you a nightly figure, that page will tell you in seconds whether it is ordinary for the area.

Figures on this page are read from the published disclosure data at build time, so they match the price pages exactly. This is general information about published prices, not medical advice, and it does not recommend any hospital. Confirm any figure with the hospital before treatment.
